Overview
Switching Mode Regulators (SMRs) are advanced power conversion devices that have largely replaced linear regulators in modern electronics. They operate by rapidly switching a power transistor between its saturated and cutoff states, then using inductors and capacitors to smooth the output voltage. This switching approach (typically at frequencies between 50kHz to several MHz) enables much higher efficiency (often 80-95%) compared to linear regulators. Structure and Working Principle
