Overview
Smart Resistance Temperature Detectors represent the evolution of traditional RTDs, integrating microprocessors for advanced functionality. These devices measure temperature by correlating the resistance of pure metal elements (typically platinum) with temperature changes. The 'smart' capability comes from onboard digital signal processing that enables features like linearization, self-testing, and communication via industrial protocols (e.g., HART, Foundation Fieldbus). Unlike basic RTDs, smart versions minimize measurement errors through automatic compensation for lead resistance and environmental factors. Structure and Working Principle
A smart RTD consists of three main components: the sensing element (typically a platinum wire wound around a ceramic or glass core), protective sheath (stainless steel or other alloys), and the smart transmitter module.
