Radial Electrolytic Capacitors are polarized passive components that store electrical energy via an electrochemical mechanism. Their compact radial lead design allows vertical PCB mounting, saving space compared to axial counterparts. Structure and Working Principle
The capacitor consists of two aluminum foils: an anode (oxidized to form dielectric layer) and a cathode, separated by electrolyte-soaked paper. The assembly is rolled into a cylindrical case with rubber seals. When voltage is applied correctly (anode positive), the oxide layer acts as insulator while electrolyte facilitates charge storage.
