PVDC packaging refers to multilayer films or coatings where polyvinylidene chloride serves as the primary barrier component. Developed in the 1930s by Dow Chemical (as Saran), it remains unmatched for oxygen (<1 cc/m²/day) and moisture (<1 g/m²/day) barrier performance among flexible polymers. Unlike conventional plastics, PVDC's symmetrical molecular structure and high crystallinity enable exceptional permeation resistance. Safety and Storage
FDA/EC compliant PVDC grades are food-contact safe when processed correctly. Finished films are typically supplied in moisture-proof rolls, stable for 12-24 months under recommended conditions (20-25°C, <60% RH).
