Overview
Pressure sensitive adhesives (PSAs) are viscoelastic materials that permanently remain tacky at room temperature. Unlike other adhesives, they don't require chemical curing, heat activation, or solvent evaporation to create bonds. PSAs adhere to most surfaces with light pressure and can be removed without leaving residue in many formulations. Safety and Storage
Most PSAs present low acute toxicity but may cause skin irritation with prolonged contact. Solvent-based formulations require proper ventilation during application. Uncured materials should be stored in original containers at 15-25°C with 40-60% relative humidity. Shelf life typically ranges from 6 months to 2 years depending on formulation. Degradation signs include discoloration, odor changes, or viscosity alterations. Fire precautions are necessary for solvent-based PSAs, while water-based and hot melt varieties are generally non-flammable.
