Overview
Phenolic grating is a composite material formed by combining phenolic resin with fiberglass or other reinforcing fibers under high pressure and temperature. Developed as an alternative to steel grating in corrosive environments, it combines the chemical resistance of thermoset polymers with the structural strength of fiber reinforcement. Unlike metal gratings, phenolic versions are inherently non-conductive and non-sparking, making them essential in explosive environments. Fire safety is excellent with oxygen index >35 (self-extinguishing) and very low smoke emission. Storage requires protection from prolonged UV exposure to prevent surface chalking.
