Overview
PFA (Perfluoroalkoxy) is a fully fluorinated thermoplastic developed by Solvay Specialty Polymers (formerly American Suwei). It combines the properties of PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) with melt-processability, making it ideal for injection molding and extrusion. PFA is notable for its transparency, flexibility, and resistance to almost all chemicals, including strong acids and bases. While PFA is chemically inert at room temperature, thermal decomposition above 400°C may release hydrogen fluoride (HF) and other toxic gases. Adequate ventilation is required during welding or machining operations. Finished products are FDA-compliant for food contact. Store PFA raw materials away from direct sunlight to prevent UV degradation. Bulk pellets should be kept in sealed containers to avoid moisture absorption (though PFA itself is hydrophobic). Avoid contact with alkali metals and strong reducing agents.
