Overview
Nylon scrap refers to processed waste materials derived from nylon production or post-consumer nylon products that have been mechanically reduced in size through grinding or shredding. This recycled material plays a crucial role in the circular economy of plastics, offering manufacturers a more sustainable and cost-effective alternative to virgin nylon. The quality of nylon scrap varies significantly depending on its source, with industrial process scraps generally being cleaner than post-consumer recycled materials. Safety and Storage
Nylon scrap presents relatively low health hazards under normal handling conditions. However, dust generated during processing may cause mechanical irritation to eyes and respiratory system, requiring appropriate PPE such as safety glasses and dust masks. When heated above melting point, decomposition products may include carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxides, necessitating adequate ventilation. Proper storage of nylon scrap is crucial to maintain its quality. The material should be kept in dry conditions (below 50% relative humidity) as it is hygroscopic. Bulk storage in silos or sealed containers is recommended to prevent moisture absorption and contamination. UV exposure should be minimized to prevent surface degradation. For long-term storage, temperature should be maintained below 30°C to prevent thermal aging. Different grades and colors should be stored separately to maintain material purity.
