Overview
Copper(II) sulfate pentahydrate is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula CuSO₄·5H₂O. It has been used since antiquity for its fungicidal and coloring properties. The copper ion (Cu²⁺) gives characteristic flame tests and forms complexes with ammonia and other ligands.

Agriculture accounts for ~50% of global consumption, primarily as Bordeaux mixture (with lime) to control fungal diseases in vineyards and orchards. It's also used in animal feed (copper supplement) and aquatic herbicides. Industrial uses include electroplating baths, textile mordant, and copper catalyst production.
