Unused membranes should remain in original packaging with protective solutions (often 1% sodium bisulfite). Freezing or direct sunlight exposure causes irreversible damage to the polymer matrix. During operation, feedwater must be pre-filtered (SDI <5) to prevent fouling. Chemical cleaning requires strict adherence to manufacturer protocols—common cleaners include citric acid (for inorganic scaling) and NaOH solutions (for organic fouling), typically at <40°C.
