Low-temperature resistant PPA is a specialized polyphthalamide variant modified with impact-resistant additives and crystallinity controllers. Medical uses include cryogenic sample handling tools, where its gamma radiation resistance (up to 50 kGy) is advantageous. The material processes well via injection molding (barrel temps 320-340°C) and extrusion.
Safety and Storage
PPA pellets are generally stable but may absorb moisture during long storage. Manufacturers recommend using sealed containers with desiccants and processing within 12 months of production. Recycled material content should not exceed 30% for critical low-temperature applications. Thermal degradation during processing releases trace amounts of caprolactam and ammonia – local exhaust ventilation is advised. Finished parts exhibit no known leaching hazards. Disposal should follow local plastic waste regulations, with energy recovery being the preferred method.
