LED (Light Emitting Diode) diodes are solid-state lighting devices that emit light when an electric current passes through a semiconductor material. LEDs require minimal maintenance due to their solid-state construction. However, proper heat dissipation is crucial to prevent premature failure. Use heat sinks or thermal pads for high-power LEDs, and avoid enclosing them in non-ventilated fixtures. Electrical protection is also essential. Always use a current-limiting resistor or driver to prevent overcurrent. Reverse polarity can damage the diode, so verify wiring connections.
