Latex emulsion is a versatile water-based material composed of micrometer-sized polymer particles suspended in water. These emulsions are created through emulsion polymerization, where monomers are polymerized in the presence of surfactants to form stable dispersions. While generally safer than solvent-based alternatives, latex emulsions require proper handling. Storage life typically ranges from 6–12 months when kept in original sealed containers between 5–30°C. Freezing must be avoided as it can break the emulsion. Shelf life can be extended with proper agitation to prevent settling and skin formation.
