Low-Density Polyethylene (LDPE) is a semi-rigid, translucent thermoplastic produced via free radical polymerization of ethylene under high pressure. It was the first grade of polyethylene developed in 1933 by Imperial Chemical Industries (ICI), revolutionizing the plastics industry. LDPE is characterized by its branched molecular structure, which gives it lower density and crystallinity compared to HDPE (High-Density Polyethylene).
