Overview
Fluoroplastic sheets are engineered polymer materials primarily composed of PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene) or related fluoropolymers. These materials are valued for their unique combination of properties that make them indispensable in demanding industrial environments. First developed in the 1930s, fluoroplastics have become critical materials in modern industry due to their ability to withstand extreme conditions that would degrade most other plastics. Its extremely low coefficient of friction (0.05-0.10) gives it self-lubricating properties without the need for additives.

In chemical processing, fluoroplastic sheets serve as linings for reactors, pipes and valves to prevent corrosion. Their non-stick properties make them valuable in food processing equipment and mold release applications. The semiconductor industry uses these sheets for wafer carriers and cleanroom components due to their purity and static control properties. Other applications include high-performance bearings, seals, and electrical insulators in aerospace and automotive industries.
Safety and Storage
While fluoroplastics are generally safe at room temperature, thermal decomposition above 260°C can release toxic fumes including perfluoroisobutylene. Adequate ventilation is required when machining or welding near these materials. Storage should be in dry conditions below 30°C, protected from UV light which can cause slight degradation over time. Sheets should be stored flat to prevent deformation, with interleaving paper for protection if stacked.
